  1. I remember the Caffarello Motel very well. My grandmother worked in the motel’s laundry room. The motel’s manager, Viola Brooks and her husband Herman were very good friends of our family. So good in fact that I always referred to them as Aunt Vi and Uncle Herman, though we were not truly related. My family would occasionally stay here just so we could utilize the pool. When Mr. Caffarello passed away, the motel’s name was changed to Chicago’s Midway House. As I recall, if any of the employees wanted the motel’s chenille Caffarello bedspreads with a large C in the center, they could help themselves as, for obvious reasons, they were no longer to be used. As my grandmother’s last name was Costa, she took several and used them for years. When the motel closed, I believe a disco called Zack’s opened on the old motel’s location. Today, I believe Midway Airport adsorbed the property, and the location now provides parking.
