I want to thank you for all of the great pictures of the theaters of Downtown Chicago. I remember all of them as well as the Riviera, Nortown, Adelphi and Grenada theaters on the North Side where I grew up. All gone now and that is truly a shame. These were architectural works of art.
Hi Larry,
Chicago’s wonderful theaters, and they were wonderful, were among the city’s great experiences of the time. Elaborate, sometimes mysterious, comfortable with the scent of fresh-popped and buttered popcorn, long shows with double features – great places for a little urban adventure.
Today’s multi-plex theaters are the equivalent of comparing a cheap sandwich to a full-course meal.
