  1. I went there from 1957 to 1958. I took tumbling in the quonset hut gym building just to the right of the pier. Inside the pier, the walls were all painted an ugly green. I had a health class at the far end in one of those towers. Half the time, I didn’t bother walking that far to attend class. I was immature and the place was a hell hole: Not a good combination.

    • Yes, that photo brings back memories. I was there for two terms in the mid-1960s.

      Actually, I rather liked the atmosphere of “the Pier” as it was called.

      Not the gym though. I hated it.

      I thought the new campus at Chicago Circle, where I went briefly, a much less agreeable place.
