  1. this was my grandfathers restaurant

    • Johnny Vogelsang grew up in Ripley County Indiana. He learned the restaurant business in Cincinnati and after the Great Fire moved to Chicago to start his own, first in partnership. Soon he became good friends of Chicago Mayor Carter Henry Harrision Sr so much so that Harrison and family ate there nearly every evening. This relationship continued after Harrison’s assisination as Vogelsang remained a close friend to Carter H. Harrison Jr. For decades most of the important deals done in Chicago happened at Vogelsang’s up until William Hale Thompson was elected and Al Capone and prohibition ran the city. Vogelsangs was known for their fresh seafood and live lobster that arrived daily for the east coast via the railroad. Is the postcard dated 1910 or is that a guess?
